Then, I heard a click and the current dropped to 0. I think the initial 9.8A is the starting current. The click sound was from the overload relay cut off the power to compressor. I need to wait a while for the overload relay to cool down before I can do this test again. Is the compressor is no good. Is there any other test that I can do? Took out the PTC start relay and overload relay and did the continuity test. The overload relay is fine and the PTC start relay M and R is open. If the compressor is dead, it will be cheaper to buy a new chest freezer than get someone to replace the compressor. The compressor may still have mechanical problem inside even the windings resistances are fine. My freezer is working again after installing a new PTC starter relay. This is a great learning experience. I was lucky that the food in the freezer were relocated in my refrigerator. This allows me time to do my research. I buy tools when they are on sale. Otherwise, I need to spend extra money on tools. This clamp meter is free now with the saving from not hiring someone to fix it or buy a new freezer. The digital version I need to install uses a pair of wires connected to a metal probe about 3 inches long. The compressor is still good. This freezer is of a quality that I have not seen in my 65 years. Excellent quality. Delivered by UPS, (amazing for its large size and weight), the freezer arrived in perfect shape. Excellent packaging. EASY to set up. I immediately placed 3 thermometers inside and plugged it in. 2 hours later, the temp was -12 degrees. Set thermostat to warmest setting and my thermometers registered lower than 10 degrees after 6 hours. So, this thermostat is not good for refrigeration temperatures, Not to worry, there are many easy ways around this if you might someday need a refrigerator instead of a freezer.I managed to unbox it and hook it up by myself. And I'm OLD! Excellent product. Only giving 4 stars because I expected it to have an interior light. It never occurred to me that a frost free, energy efficient freezer this size would come without a light.The freezer looks solidly and cleanly made. Top of freezer is textured and looks to be a good place to store kitchen items on top.Third arrived fine. The lid had 2 cracks inside where it had pushed down onto the hanging basket. It looks nice an spacious. UPDATE: 2nd freezer arrived today. (Fast shipping!) It has numerous minor scratches and dents. I can deal with that. However the lid does not seal tight along the back. The sides and front are fine, but in the back there is about an eighth inch gap letting out cold air. This is not acceptable as we would be wasting energy constantly and there would be greater frost build up inside. Will be returning for a 3rd replacement. Or we could get worse, but I don't think the gap in seal is functional, so I need to return it.
